The Ministry of Justice hosted the first meeting with the TAIEX peer review evaluation mission, consisting of European Union experts assessing Moldova’s progress in fighting high-level corruption, organized crime, and money laundering.
Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru stated that the experts will examine how national authorities have handled specific cases, from prosecution to sentencing.
“With the European Council’s decision to open negotiations with Moldova, we are even more determined to harmonize national legislation with European standards and strengthen our institutions’ capacity to combat high-level corruption, organized crime, and money laundering. This evaluation will help us determine whether our law enforcement and institutional mechanisms meet European Union requirements,” Mihailov said.
Giovanni Pasqua, the expert team leader, explained that the mission will involve intense days of analysis, information exchange, and the formulation of recommendations for Moldovan authorities.
