Moldova and Romania will soon exchange electricity

The Transport and System Operators (OTS), Transelectrica from Romania and Moldelectrica from the Republic of Moldova signed today, August 11, the contract that will allow the allocation of capacity for the commercial exchange of electricity on the interconnection line between the two countries. The exchange of energy between Bucharest and Chisinau are to start this October.

The collaboration of the two operators is to be legalized by means of a joint agreement, which will materialize through the allocation of interconnection capacity. This ways there will be a dynamic flow of electricity transactions between the participants in the energy market in Romania and those in the Republic of Moldova.

Commercial exchanges of electricity with the Republic of Moldova will begin immediately after the completion of the entire process involving the harmonization of technical details and commercial aspects.

Thus, the first electricity transactions between Romania and the Republic of Moldova are estimated for October this year.

The successful implementation of the electricity commercialization process on the interconnection between Romania and the Republic of Moldova represents a support commitment between the two TSOs and contributes to the development and proper functioning of the energy market at the European level.

We remind you that on March 16, the electricity systems of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova were successfully synchronized with the European electricity system.
