The partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), along with their joint projects in energy efficiency, regional development, justice, and environmental protection, was the focus of today’s meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and UNDP Resident Representative Daniela Gasparikova.
Prime Minister Munteanu emphasized that every programme aims to improve people’s lives and support Moldova’s path toward EU accession.
“Each developed programme aims to meet people’s needs, improve their lives, and support us on our path to the European Union. We want to enhance our capacity to absorb external assistance and direct it where the benefit is maximum,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for UNDP’s contribution this year to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, which provides compensation for energy bills. He also noted UNDP’s projects to modernize centralized heating systems and support initiatives focused on justice reform, green economy, and climate change adaptation.
A key part of the discussion addressed local development and the opportunities UNDP creates for enterprises and communities across Moldova’s regions. The two sides reviewed collaboration priorities related to improving public finance management and facilitating local authorities’ access to development resources.
UNDP Resident Representative Daniela Gasparikova reaffirmed the organization’s continued support for Moldova’s reform efforts:
“UNDP remains committed to supporting the Moldovan government’s efforts to promote efficient, transparent, and results-oriented governance capable of transforming reforms into real benefits for people and communities.”
Currently, UNDP Moldova is implementing over 40 projects contributing to most of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), many with nationwide coverage.
