The Republic of Moldova inaugurated an Honorary Consulate yesterday in Baia Mare, Romania. The Republic of Moldova appointed Florentin-Nicolae Tus, President of the Maramures Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the city’s first Honorary Consul.
The event was attended by Victor Chirila, Moldova’s Ambassador to Bucharest, Eugen Rusu, consular affairs counselor, officials, business leaders, academics, and Moldovan students from western Maramures County.
Florentin-Nicolae Tus expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and emphasized the significance of this mandate for strengthening Moldovan-Romanian relations.

“With great joy and utmost responsibility, I have embraced the mission of Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Baia Mare. My appointment to this role by His Excellency Victor Chirila, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Moldova to Romania, marks a historic moment for our city, Maramures County, and the diplomatic relations between Romania and Moldova,” said Tus.
The Consular Office in Baia Mare is the first Honorary Consulate established in Maramures County.
During the event, officials reiterated the commitment to enhancing Moldova’s presence in Maramures County by strengthening business ties, increasing investments, and fostering cooperation between educational institutions, communities, and cultural organizations.
