Moldovan-German cooperation strengthens trade routes within the Eastern Partnership

April 16 marked the launch of an innovative regional technical cooperation initiative titled “Enhancing Sustainable and Digital Trade Routes and Logistics Concepts between Eastern Partnership Countries and the EU.” Hosted at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR), this project targets managers and technical experts from public institutions and enterprises’ personnel, with a special emphasis on SMEs operating within the trade, transport, and logistics domains.

With a focus on modernizing infrastructure and business methodologies, the project aims to unleash the trading potential of the region, foster economic advancement, and underscore the importance of environmental sustainability. Eugen Harabara, Deputy Secretary General of MIDR, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government of Germany and GIZ Moldova for their unwavering support in the country’s development. He welcomed the project’s launch, highlighting its timeliness in addressing critical needs, especially in institutional and logistical capacity building in transportation.

Margret Uebber, the Ambassador of Germany to the Republic of Moldova, emphasized the project’s potential to propel dynamic and sustainable growth in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) and EU regions. She stated, “This initiative aims to fortify trade capabilities, foster economic prosperity, and champion environmental sustainability, paving the way for a greener and more interconnected future for all.”

Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the German International Cooperation Agency, in collaboration with the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova, will execute the project.
