Moldovan pupils can participate in the US-organized FLEX Academic Exchange Program

Pupils from the Republic of Moldova can participate in the FLEX Academic Exchange Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State. The FLEX Scholarship offers selected students the chance to live with an American host family and study in a U.S. school during the 2025-2026 academic year.

The competition is open to 9th, 10th, and 11th graders who meet several criteria: they must study in Moldova, hold Moldovan citizenship, be born between January 1, 2008, and July 15, 2010, be studying English, meet U.S. visa requirements, and have not spent more than three months in the U.S. in the last five years. Additionally, FLEX invites students with disabilities born between February 15, 2008, and July 15, 2010, to participate and provide them with special testing accommodations.

Recruitment for the program occurs in three stages. Until September 26, applicants can complete an online application – three essay questions. The second stage involves an online English language test for selected candidates. The final stage is between October and December. It includes interviews and further assessments for those who advance.

After receiving all applications, the CEC sends the documents to Washington, DC, where a selection committee reviews them. Results will be from April to May 2025. Finalists and alternates will prepare the necessary paperwork for U.S. visas and school registration. All finalists must attend an orientation session before departing for the U.S. Selected finalists will travel to the United States in August 2025 and return in May and June 2026.

The Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX), now in its 31st year, is a U.S. government-sponsored program for high school students from Europe and Eurasia. It provides scholarship funding for students to travel to the United States, attend a U.S. high school for a full academic year, and live with an American host family.
