The Republic of Moldova’s radar systems cannot detect drones, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii admitted, referring to the recent incidents of drones crashing on Moldovan territory. Nosatyi noted that the drone that fell on November 19 near a shopping center in Chisinau resembled others recently found. However, he could not explain how the drone ended among the branches.
“This drone is similar to others discovered in recent weeks. It appears to be part of the same raid conducted on November 10. I want to emphasize that, at first glance, all drones may look alike, but I urge citizens not to approach them or interfere, as they can be dangerous,” Nosatii stated.
The minister also acknowledged that the radars currently used by Moldovan authorities are incapable of detecting drones flying over the country’s airspace in a timely manner. He emphasized the need to acquire new radar systems.

“I want to point out that the composite materials used in these drones make them difficult to detect with our existing radars. Their small reflective surfaces and a flight range of 1,000–1,300 kilometers allow them to traverse Ukraine and reach Moldovan territory from the launch site.
Additionally, drone tactics and missile technology have evolved, rendering our older radar systems from the 1960s and 1980s ineffective for detecting such threats. The new radar system Moldova has acquired does offer detection capabilities but is limited by its range and technical specifications for certain targets,” Nosatii explained.
