Moldova’s Possible EU Accession Without Transnistria?

Moldova could join the European Union even without the Transnistria region. Thus, if the Transnistrian dispute remains unresolved, it does not represent an obstacle in the accession process, stated President Maia Sandu on a TV8 program. The head of state emphasized that the Transnistrian region could later integrate into the European Union.

“The Republic of Moldova cannot stand still; we must become a member of the European Union, and the European Union does not say that if reintegration does not happen, EU accession is impossible. On the other hand, our people on the left bank will see what integration into the EU means because the quality of life will greatly improve here. We see this from the experience of all the states that have become EU members in the last 20 years,” said Maia Sandu.

Previously, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, during his visit to Chisinau, mentioned that this conflict in the Transnistrian region should not influence the Republic of Moldova’s accession process to the European Union.
