Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania on official visit to Chisinau

The field of electoral communication, ensuring institutional transparency and promoting the image of electoral management bodies both during the elections and between elections were the topics of discussions of the President of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Angelica Caraman, with her counterpart of the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania , Constantin-Florin Mitulețu Buică, who is, on an official visit to Chisinau.

During the meeting held at the end of last week, the CEC leadership highlighted the importance of this visit, which strengthens the collaborative relations established and developed over the years, based on the links between our countries and, in particular, the electoral institutions we represent. Angelica Caraman thanked for the support provided by the authorities in Bucharest for the European course of the Republic of Moldova and for the support in the realization of the policies for the development of democratic processes in our country.

On the agenda of the officials’ discussions were topical issues in the electoral field, including electoral reform initiated by the CEC, digitalization of electoral processes and implementation of information technologies in elections, control of political funding and ensuring the right to vote of citizens abroad.

The leadership of the two electoral institutions expressed their strong commitment and common interest in further developing and strengthening bilateral cooperation between our institutions.

The visit of the Romanian official to the Republic of Moldova was organized based on the Electoral Cooperation Agreement concluded between the Central Electoral Commission and the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania on November 11, 2019 and contributes to deepening inter-institutional cooperation by exchanging experience in electoral matters.
