During his working visit to Strasbourg, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi met with Marija Pejčinović Burić, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

“During the discussions, we exchanged views on recent political developments in the Republic of Moldova, the Process of EU Accession, and the dynamics of the regional situation. During the discussion, we talked about the aid given by the Council of Europe, specifically through the action plans for the Republic of Moldova. We emphasized the significance of the projects implemented in the areas of judicial independence and efficiency, anti-corruption measures, legislation, electoral practices, and refugee protection in Ukraine. The Council of Europe’s assistance is valuable, particularly in light of current challenges, including the Russian Federation’s conflict with Ukraine. We are committed to advancing our country’s reform agenda and combating threats to the rule of law, “Mihai Popsoi wrote on his Facebook page.

The Moldovan official stated that the Secretary-General welcomed the Chisinau authorities’ determination to carry out democratic reforms by European standards.

“The official confirmed that the Council of Europe will continue to provide support through the future Action Plan, which will concentrate on justice, anti-corruption measures, and other crucial areas to reinforce state institutions,” added the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
