As part of International Youth Day, on August 12, a “Youth Train” left Chisinau for Ungheni. It brought together more than 200 young people and representatives of youth organizations from all country.
In 2023, Ungheni became the youth capital of Moldova, hosting the nationwide event “Unleash Your Potential.” During the trip, young people took part in quizzes and played board and team games.
Together with the youth, the Minister of Education, Dan Perchun, and the UNFPA representative in Moldova, Nigina Abaszade, went to Ungheni.
The minister said that August 12 is a day of energy, positivism, creativity, desire for change, and idealism of young people. Dan Perciun stressed that the mission of the ministry and the government is to persuade the Moldovan youth to stay at home, create families, and realize themselves as professionals in the country. He also said that in the last two years, the young people have been more active thanks to several governmental achievements.
These are the introduction of an allowance of 1,000 lei for children under the two-year age, the division of parental leave between mother and father, or the increase of scholarships for outstanding athletes. The Education Ministry invested more than 3 million lei in the renovation of universities, dormitories, and vocational schools.
Dan Perciun said that on this day, he especially wants to honor the athletes who have achieved and will achieve the best results in Moldova’s history in terms of medals this year, as well as the Olympians, volunteers, young artists, and young people who make Moldova better for all.
According to Nigina Abaszadeh, half of the world’s population is made up of young people, so this is a very important category. International Youth Day was declared in honor of this generation, and on this day, we need to discuss the problems faced by the youth. “Youth Train,” in her opinion, is a symbol to talk about youth people as an agent of change to draw attention to the potential that young men and women have.
