President Maia Sandu met today, August 20, with Sweden’s Minister of Defense, Pål Jonson, and Sweden’s Minister for Civil Defense, Carl-Oskar Bohlin. The officials are on a working visit to Chisinau.
The visit of the Swedish Defense Ministers is a first for the Republic of Moldova and underscores the deepening of bilateral relations between our country and Sweden.
In the meeting, the President highlighted Moldova’s current challenges and emphasized the need to strengthen the country’s resilience amid Russia’s aggressive actions in the region. Maia Sandu also conveyed Moldova’s eagerness to broaden its cooperation with Sweden in security and defense.
In closing, President Sandu thanked the Swedish authorities for their support of Moldova’s European path and for the financial assistance provided for various development and modernization projects in the country.
