Romania reduces tax on electrical energy imports and exports to Moldova and Ukraine

Romania’s National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has announced an adjustment of the regulated tariff applied by Transelectrica for the import, export, and transit of light to the power systems of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

The decision comes as the power exchange intensifies following the synchronization of the two neighboring countries’ power systems with the interconnected grid of continental Europe in March 2022.

In September 2022, authorities initially raised the regulated tariff for electricity exchanges with neighboring countries from €0.6 to €1.2/MWh plus VAT and then further increased it to €3/MWh plus VAT. Regional instability, including attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, drove this hike.
