The head of the Parliament’s Legal Department, Ion Creanga, and the border police officer, both suspended and charged with treason and conspiracy against Moldova, have been indicted, the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) announced.
According to the charges, Creanga faces a prison term of 15 to 20 years, with a ban from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for 10 to 15 years. The court could sentence the suspended border officer to 5 to 10 years in prison and impose a similar ban for 5 to 10 years.
Prosecutors allege that the two officials unlawfully shared sensitive information with a Russian embassy employee in Chisinau. This information reportedly included measures to bolster Moldova’s military defense, Moldova’s security cooperation with other states, national institutions’ security activities, the situation on the left bank of the Dniester, the draft National Defense Strategy for 2024–2034, and legislative plans that could impact Russia, such as Moldova’s potential EU accession referendum and amendments to the Criminal Code article on “Treason against the Motherland,” for which Creanga now stands accused.

The PCCOCS also reported that the wife of the suspended senior border officer acted as an accomplice.
“His wife is also being prosecuted for aiding in the conspiracy against Moldova with the suspended Border Police officer. The Chisinau Court (Buiucani district) will soon set a hearing date for the case. Until a final judgment is issued, the three defendants are presumed innocent under the law,” the PCCOCS stated.
