Sigfried Muresan: Moldovan authorities have “educated” citizens not to be manipulated on TikTok

Moldovan authorities have taken steps to “educate” citizens on resisting manipulation from disinformation on social media platforms. MEP Sigfried Muresan made this statement in the context of controversies regarding election interference through TikTok and X.

The MEP praised the European Commission’s efforts to investigate the alleged interference, according to Agerpres. Muresan emphasized that “people have the right to know what happened.”

“We believed that such interference could not occur within the European Union, in a member state of the Union, but in the meantime, I think everyone has realized that the Russian Federation aims to weaken the European Union, its institutions at the European level, and national institutions. They want people to lose trust in justice, in the democratic institutions of the state, and ultimately, they aim for destabilization,” said the MEP.

In his view, the authorities in the Republic of Moldova have implemented more effective measures as they recognize the danger. Muresan believes that the Moldovan population has been better informed about the phenomenon of disinformation compared to the population in Romania.
