June 23 marks the 34th anniversary of the proclamation of Moldova’s sovereignty. On this occasion, President Maia Sandu addressed a congratulatory message to the citizens.
In her message, the president said that during this period, Moldova had gone through a lot of difficulties, but this did not prevent Moldova from being a democratic state.
The head of state said, “On June 23, 1990, we adopted the Declaration of Sovereignty, a document that opened the way to independence, democracy, and the rule of law. This path was full of difficulties, but 34 years later, Moldova remains a peaceful and democratic country, where the people are sovereign and determine the country’s destiny.”

Maia Sandu recalled that in the fall, the people should again make an important decision and determine the country’s destiny by backing the accession to the European Union.
“During the years of independence, we have realized that democracy and freedom are not given to us once and for all.” Maia Sandu emphasized that defending these values- daily is essential for building a peaceful and prosperous life at home and ensuring a free, independent, and secure country for our children to inherit.
