The CEC Approves Regulation on Organizing and Conducting Voting by Mail

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has approved the Regulation on the organization and conduct of voting by mail. It applies only to citizens in the United States, Canada, the Kingdom of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland for the presidential election and the republican constitutional referendum scheduled for October 20.

The resolution outlines the details of organizing and conducting voting by mail for citizens eligible to vote abroad and the responsibilities of election authorities and other involved entities.

“The purpose of the document is to detail the electoral procedures aimed at pre-registration for voting by mail, preparation of electoral lists and completion of electoral materials related to the implementation of voting by mail, ensuring the process of voting by mail (. . .), as well as the procedure for counting, summarizing and centralizing the results of voting by mail,” the CEC notes.

Registration for voting by mail is mandatory. Citizens of the six countries mentioned above can register on the “pre-registration” online platform at inregistrare.cec.md.

The total cost of conducting the voting is more than 19 million lei, with the money allocated from the state budget.
