The Energy Minister from across the Prut River: Romania is determined to support Moldova unconditionally

Romania is determined to support Moldova unconditionally, stated Romania’s Energy Minister, Sebastian Burduja. He spoke with his Moldovan counterpart, Victor Parlicov, following the alert issued in the gas sector in Romania. Burduja noted that authorities across the Prut River will keep focusing on uniting the energy systems of Moldova and Romania to ensure stability, security, and development on both sides.

“Romania’s new Energy Strategy reflects our commitment to supporting Moldova’s energy security. We have the capability and determination to support Moldova unconditionally, especially during these particularly challenging times. Vestmoldtransgaz, a subsidiary of Transgaz, has been operating Moldova’s national natural gas transport system since last year, significantly enhancing the stability of the entire energy system across the Prut. The Iasi-Chisinau pipeline has been operational since 2022, and we are currently expanding it through the Chisinau Ring Road. Likewise, the Suceava-BălÈ›i interconnection line is a central priority for both electrical energy transport systems, and we estimate its completion by 2027. The relationship between Romania and Moldova is unique. We share the same past and certainly the same future. We stand strong together and are unwavering in our support,” declared Sebastian Burduja.

We clarify that Prime Minister Dorin Recean has called a meeting of the Commission for Exceptional Situations (CES) in response to information from the Ministry of Energy. This information concerns the potential risk of natural gas supply interruptions due to military actions in the area of the cross-border interconnection point between the Russian Federation and Ukraine (Sudja).
