The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MFA) hosted the inaugural Moldova-EU Annual Dialogue on security and defense. The meeting was co-chaired by Alexandru Codreanu, head of MFA’s Cooperation with the EU Department, and Cosmin Dobran, director of the Peace, Partnerships, and Crisis Management Directorate of the European External Action Service (EEAS).
Participants included EU Ambassador to Moldova Janis Mazeiks and representatives from the Foreign Affairs, Interior, Defense, and Economic Development and Digitalization Ministries with the Supreme Security Council, Cyber Security Agency, Intelligence and Security Service, and the Centre for Strategic Communication and Combating Misinformation. Members of the EEAS represented the EU delegation.
Discussions focused on implementing the Security and Defense Partnership between Moldova and the EU and expanding cooperation in areas such as countering hybrid threats, cybersecurity, building security and defense capacity through the European Peace Facility, collaborating with the EU Partnership Mission in Moldova, and strengthening strategic communication to combat information manipulation and foreign interference.

Cosmin Dobran congratulated Moldova on professionally conducting its elections and constitutional referendum and commended citizens for their choice to enshrine the goal of European integration in the Constitution. He also praised Moldova’s resilience in the face of hybrid attacks, affirming that the EU would continue to support the country.
Alexandru Codreanu highlighted that EU accession is the best pathway to ensuring peace and security for Moldovan citizens. He acknowledged Moldova’s appreciation for the EU’s expanded cooperation in the security and defense sector, especially in light of Russian aggression in Ukraine and the rise in hybrid operations targeting Moldova.
The Moldova-EU Annual Dialogue is under the Security and Defense Partnership between Moldova and the EU, signed on May 21, 2024. Moldova is the first country to establish such a partnership with the EU.
