It is important to recall that the PSRM stated it did not recognize the referendum’s results concerning EU accession and called on the ruling party, PAS, to abandon the Constitution’s changes. The Socialists argued the referendum was “illegal,” despite the Constitutional Court of Moldova’s positive decision on April 16, 2024, to permit the referendum and the constitutional amendment aimed at EU accession.
The court clarified that the proposed revision of the Constitution does not compromise Moldova’s sovereign, independent, and unified nature, nor does it threaten its “permanent neutrality” status.
