The Republic of Moldova is the main exporter of sunflower seeds to the EU


The Republic of Moldova has become the main country exporting sunflower seeds to the EU market. Thus, in the agricultural season 2023/2024, our country exported 52.8% to the EU, surpassing Ukraine, which in the previous season accounted for 87% of the volume, writes Mold-Street.

More specifically, the volumes exported by the Republic of Moldova to the EU market in the agricultural season 2023/2024 are over 190,000 tons, an increase of about 50% compared to the agricultural season 2022/2023.

At the same time, the data also shows that our country is third in the export of rapeseed to the EU market, after Ukraine and Australia. The volumes of exported rapeseeds have quadrupled compared to the agricultural season 2022/2023. Meanwhile, Moldova ranks third in the export of sunflower oil, but the indicated volumes are small.

In the 2023/2024 season, the Republic of Moldova increased its export of sunflower seed meal to the EU market by about 2.5 times, becoming the fourth exporter after Ukraine, Argentina, and Russia.
