The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Anca Dragu, today, July 25, submitted to the Parliament the proposal to appoint Finance Minister Petru Rotaru as deputy governor of the central bank. According to a statement issued by the institution, the decision is part of the NBM’s efforts to ensure the stability and continuous development of the financial sector in the Republic of Moldova.
“Mr. Rotaru’s experience, integrity, and reputation will contribute to the National Bank’s mission fulfillment and Moldova’s financial system strengthening,” says NBM Governor Anca Dragu.
The Moldovan Parliament is to vote on the proposal for the appointment of Petru Rotaru.

Recall that on Thursday, July 25, Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced in a post on Facebook that Finance Minister Petru Rotaru had resigned.
Petru Rotaru has held the post of Minister of Finance since 2023 and has extensive experience in the financial sector, demonstrating remarkable qualities throughout his career. He graduated from the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova in 2007, specializing in finance and accounting, and obtained a master’s degree in law from the same institution between 2010 and 2012.
His professional career has included positions in the financial sector and public administration. Between 2016 and 2023, he was a member of the Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova and subsequently took the helm of the State Tax Service.
