Tourism Booms in Moldova Despite Border Conflict – a Spectacular 58% Surge!

In the first three months of 2023, the number of tourists in Moldova rose by nearly 20%. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, approximately 44,500 people availed of the services of travel agencies, marking an 18.6% growth compared to the same period last year.

The number of foreigners visiting the Republic of Moldova through travel agencies has shown an impressive growth of 58.2% compared to the previous January-March period. Out of the total 5,100 visitors, the majority (88.9%) were day-trippers who arrived for leisure, recreation, and entertainment purposes.

The largest influx of foreign visitors came from Romania, accounting for 31.8% of the total foreign citizens received in the country. Ukraine followed closely behind with 24.8%, while Italy accounted for 7.8% of the visitors. The United States and Israel each represented 6.4% of the visitors, with France at 5.9%, Germany at 4.9%, and Russia at 4.7%.


Despite the border tensions, Moldova continues to attract tourists, showcasing its appeal as a destination for relaxation, cultural experiences, and leisure activities. The significant increase in tourist numbers highlights the resilience and attractiveness of the country’s tourism industry.

This growth in tourism not only brings economic benefits but also underscores the confidence that foreign visitors have in Moldova as a safe and compelling travel destination.
