The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has allocated $1.3 million through the MESA project in 2023 to acquire 53 emergency power generators for Moldova. According to a USAID report, these generators, boasting a total capacity exceeding 4 MW, have been supplied to Moldovan institutions providing essential social services.
The beneficiaries of these generators include 22 hospitals in Chișinău and 10 localities: Comrat, Basarabca, Bălți, Telenești, Drochia, Rezina, Edinești, Sîngerei, Ștefan-Vodă, and Ungheni. Additionally, key enterprises such as Moldelectrica, Termoelectrica, CET-Nord, and Apă-Canal Chișinău have received this support. The generators play a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted power supply to these institutions.
Thanks to the assistance provided by the United States, Moldova’s hospitals and essential infrastructure are now equipped with autonomous sources of electrical power. This initiative ensures that Moldovan citizens have guaranteed access to basic medical services, water supply, and heating in their homes during significant power interruptions.
