Renato Usatii claims that Action and Solidarity party accepted the proposal of the “Our Party” to create a parliamentary commission of inquiry into alleged fraud cases because of negotiations on Moldova’s EU accession. He argues that the move is linked to the need to improve relations between the ruling party and the opposition in order to open the first negotiation cluster.

He made the statement during comments to the press, saying he learned about the situation late and describing it as “nonsense.”

“According to the first cluster, one of the conditions is that the government must find consensus with the opposition. They invented nonsense. I must admit I found out too late, and they got away with it,” Usatii said.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said he is not aware of these circumstances. He stated that the first negotiation cluster opens based on an assessment of Moldova’s progress in the EU accession process.

“At concerts there is harmony. What does the cluster have to do with it? The cluster is opened after we show that we have worked and fulfilled the conditions. First time I hear about it,” Grosu commented.

Last week, the European Union declared itself ready to discuss with Moldovan authorities the opening of the first negotiation cluster on accession. On June 11, Ursula von der Leyen stated that the decision to start talks on this chapter would be announced in the coming days.
