In the latest episode of the “EUR Opinii” podcast, former Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov discussed significant transformations in Moldova’s energy sector.
According to Parlicov, Moldova has drastically reduced its reliance on Russian gas by diversifying its supply sources and routes. The country now imports gas from various suppliers, including the United States, Greece, and Romania, enabling more competitive pricing. New routes, such as the Trans-Balkan pipeline and the vertical gas corridor through the Balkans, have been successfully tested.
Another major milestone was Moldova’s integration into the European energy system. This connection has helped the country navigate energy crises, such as supply disruptions from Ukraine and the Transnistrian region.

Additionally, Moldova has made significant strides in renewable energy. While renewables accounted for 5–6% of the energy mix in 2022, this share will reach 14% by the end of 2024. Energy efficiency programs, including subsidies for residential building insulation, have also been launched.
Parlicov emphasized that these developments, supported by the EU, are reducing Moldova’s dependence on Russian energy resources and strengthening its economic and political stability.
