(VIDEO) OSCE Chairwoman reaffirms commitment to supporting the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova

The official visit of the current OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Elina Valtonen, to the Republic of Moldova concluded on the evening of January 9, marking a significant step in strengthening the dialogue for resolving the Transnistrian conflict. The Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the organization’s commitment to supporting Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

During her meetings in Chisinau, Valtonen met with Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian. She also discussed with Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselski and chief negotiator Vitali Ignatiev in Bender. The Chairperson was accompanied by Ambassador Kelly Keiderling, Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, and Ambassador Thomas Lenk, Special Representative for the Transnistrian Settlement Process.

The discussions emphasized the need for open and constructive dialogue between the parties to build mutual trust and find sustainable solutions to the disputes affecting people’s lives on both sides of the Dniester River.

“OSCE has a strong mandate to advance the resolution of the Transnistrian conflict and to support Moldova and its sovereignty. Finland, as the OSCE Chair, remains committed to this process,” stated Valtonen.

Another critical issue addressed was the energy crisis affecting the population across the region. Valtonen emphasized the importance of finding ordinary solutions through dialogue.
“The current situation requires cooperation and commitment from both sides. We stand with Moldova and its citizens during these difficult times,” the official added.


In addition to the official meetings, Elina Valtonen also spoke with representatives of civil society and visited the OSCE mission in Moldova, reaffirming the organization’s ongoing support for the country’s stability and development.
