Six days before the second round of the presidential election, Renato Usatii, the president of ”Our Party,” held a press briefing in which he announced his position regarding Sunday’s election. The politician stated that he would not support either of the two candidates.
“(…) I can say with absolute certainty that the current president, Ms. Maia Sandu, after her four-year term and the three-year term of the PAS government, cannot have any support from me or ‘Our Party.’ This decision was discussed with party colleagues, and I had a week to discuss it with all citizens.
(…) Today, in the second round, the Socialist Party’s candidate is Mr. Alexandr Stoianoglo. The leadership of this party, led by Igor Dodon, has been trying to destroy ‘Our Party’ and bring me down since 2014. This fight and attempt to destroy me has already lasted 10 years. In 2014, ‘Our Party,’ according to an arrangement between Plahotniuc and Dodon, was abusively removed from the elections, and we could not participate in the parliamentary elections, creating the first precedent in the history of the Republic of Moldova where a party was excluded just days before the elections.
