The President of the Platform Moldova, Irina Vlah, claims that the authorities ignore the will of the people on the subject of the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova. According to her, “the rulers are afraid that the opinion of Moldovan citizens will disturb the plans they have already outlined and the obligations they have to someone”. In his view, the reluctance of those in power to find out the opinion of the people on such an important issue as neutrality cannot be explained otherwise, writes  ipn.md.
“This abnormal situation, out of the ordinary, also prompted me to address you. Based on the government’s attitude towards the actions taken by me and my team in recent weeks, I deduce that the authorities have already decided how to proceed with Moldova’s neutrality in the future and do not need people’s opinion. They are probably afraid that the opinion of Moldovan citizens will mess up the plans they have already made”, said Irina Vlah.
The leader of the Moldova Platform told about her attempts to persuade the authorities to include an additional question – on Moldova’s neutrality status – in the referendum that President Maia Sandu wants to hold at the same time as the presidential elections. According to her, her initiative was prompted by statements made by the head of state and other Moldovan leaders admitting the possibility of giving up the country’s neutrality status.

“If those in charge of Moldova’s foreign policy have doubts about neutrality, I decided that it makes sense to invite the country’s leadership to find out what the people think on this issue. Moreover, no additional money will be spent from the state budget for this, as the President has already proposed holding a referendum at the same time as the presidential elections. All that is required from decision-makers is that they agree to put the issue to referendum,” said Irina Vlah.
She mentioned that she made an address to the members of Parliament and then to President Maia Sandu with the initiative to complete the referendum with the neutrality question, but did not have a response. “The authorities’ indifference to this issue leads to the conclusion that they have already decided how they will proceed with Moldova’s neutrality,” says the leader of Platform Moldova.
