What happens if the parliamentary elections are won by pro-Russian forces? PSDE’s Cazacu: A consensus is needed

PSDE Secretary General Iurie Cazacu believes Moldova needs a national consensus to maintain its European trajectory. He urges pro-European forces to mobilize, especially if pro-Russian factions gain control in the upcoming parliamentary elections, making it difficult to capitalize on Maia Sandu’s second term.

Cazacu shared these views during the “Consens National” program on RLIVE TV, emphasizing the need for a unified platform to bring pro-European resources across political lines. He added that the government must recognize the value of coalition partners for future post-election alliances.

“The European path, which citizens have endorsed, is too critical to leave in the hands of a single party. A national consensus, however challenging to achieve in Moldova, is essential. If we fail to move forward positively, it won’t just be one party that suffers, but the entire country. Voters may abandon the pro-European cause, putting Moldova’s future at risk,” Cazacu said.

Meanwhile, Liviu Vovc of the DA Platform pointed out that Maia Sandu remains the informal leader of the ruling party, with the potential to drive change within the party and the country to secure Moldova’s European course.

“My concern is that after winning the elections, they might not conduct a thorough review of all ministries. I worry that Mr. SpĂ®nu, who led the electoral state, will be allowed to continue without scrutiny, posing a disadvantage for the ruling party and the entire pro-European right. If they recognize this mistake, they should return to principles of meritocracy, integrity, and professionalism,” said Vovc, DA Platform’s Secretary General.
