Moldovan farmers produced almost 6% less agricultural products in the first six months of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. The decrease in agricultural production was determined by the decrease in plant production by 7.6% and animal production – by 5.3%, BANI.MD writes.
The structure of the areas sown with agricultural crops by categories of producers indicates that the largest share is held by agricultural enterprises, which account for 856.7 thousand ha or 55% of the entire area sown, while peasant (farmer) households account for 423.2 thousand ha or 27% and households of the population – 288.2 thousand ha or 18%.
In agricultural enterprises, most of the areas sown with tobacco continue to be concentrated (94% of the total area sown for the given crop), with corn for silage and green mass (92%), sugar beet (91%), rapeseed autumn (89%), wheat (76%), barley (75%), sunflower (69%) and soybean (56%). At the same time, households and peasant (farmer) households own 97% of the sown areas with food crops and the areas planted with potatoes, 94% – of the areas planted with field vegetables and 75% of the areas sown with legumes for grains.
In January-June 2022, compared to the respective period of 2021, the decrease in the production (increase) of cattle and poultry (in live weight) in all categories of households was marked by 5.3%, generated by the decrease in production in the households of the population by 11.0 % and in agricultural enterprises with 1.3 %.
The Republic of Moldova is affected by drought, which will reduce the volume of agricultural production. In this context, the Supreme Security Council recommended the review of food safety procedures to eliminate redundant elements in the certification process of food products and food producers in the country and abroad.
