Moldova aims for EU accession negotiations by year-end: President Grosu at Conference of EU Parliament Presidents

The Republic of Moldova aims to open negotiations for EU accession by the end of the current year. This was announced by the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, who is attending the Conference of Presidents of the Parliaments of the European Union in Prague.

As a candidate country for EU accession, Moldova is committed to implementing the recommendations of the European Commission and transposing European legislation at an accelerated pace. President Grosu highlighted the priorities and challenges that Moldova is facing in this period, including the reconstruction of the economy, energy security, judicial reform, and improving the standard of living.

“We are aware that this is a complex process, but we are determined to fulfill the requirements as soon as possible. Moldova must become a member of the EU despite the challenges we face,” stated President Grosu in a social media message.

This is the first time the Republic of Moldova has participated in the Conference of Presidents of the Parliaments of the European Union as a candidate country for EU accession. The conference provides a platform for discussions, exchange of opinions, information, and experiences on the role and responsibilities of national parliaments in the European structure, as well as inter-parliamentary cooperation tools in European affairs.

President Grosu will also hold meetings with his counterparts from different countries, as well as with Moldovan citizens living, studying, or working in the Czech Republic. The conference is hosted by the Czech Parliament and includes the participation of the presidents of the parliaments of the EU member states, the President of the European Parliament, and the presidents of the parliaments of the candidate countries.
