A drone flew over Moldovan airspace: Southern region closed

On the morning of May 8, the Air Operations Service of the National Army of Moldova detected an unauthorized drone entering the airspace of the Republic of Moldova from the direction of Ukraine. Authorities first tracked the drone near the locality of Volintiri and later near Valea Perjei in Taraclia District. At 09:49, a patrol from the Border Police of Moldova sector in Valea Perjei heard the unmanned aerial vehicle.

“According to data provided by aerial surveillance systems, the drone crossed Ceadir-Lunga heading toward the village of Moscovei in Cahul District. At 10:16, the drone disappeared from radar near the locality of Larga Noua. In this context, authorities closed the country’s airspace between 09:55 and 10:08 and later reopened it, while the airspace in the southern part of the country has remained closed since 10:08,” the Ministry of Defense of Moldova stated.

The ministry added that it is cooperating with national authorities and specialists from neighboring countries to ensure the safety of citizens.
