Chernihiv Mourns for Three Days: Maia Sandu Urges Accountability for Russia’s Atrocities

The Russians attacked the theater in the center of the city of Chernihiv. According to local authorities, the strike was carried out with a ballistic missile. In addition to the theater building, the administration building in Chernihiv, shops, and cafes were also damaged, and a fire broke out in a nearby house.

148 people were injured as a result of the attack, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Furthermore, the attack killed 7 people, including a six-year-old child.

President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, condemned the attack on the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv on August 19th, which resulted in deaths and injuries. According to the head of state, “such aggression must not go unpunished,” and “Russia must be held accountable.

Regarding the attack on the city of Chernihiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated, “An ordinary Saturday, Russia turned it into a day of mourning.”

August 19, 20, and 21 have been declared days of mourning.
