The latest developments in the European and international security environment were discussed by Acting Secretary-General Sergiu Odainic with Deputy Assistant for International Security and Non-Proliferation Programs Secretary of State Kathryn Insley. Moreover, the officials have talked about increasing efforts in multilateral cooperation formats offered by the UN, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and other structures for promotion of state non-proliferation, disarmament and arms control goals.
During the talks, officials stressed that in order to reduce risks and threats to international security, it is important that all states comply with their commitments under international treaties and conventions.
The possibilities of cooperation in the process of modernization of the security sector were also addressed, in order to increase the resilience and capacities of the national institutions to respond to the new challenges, including the training of experts. The interlocutors also spoke about bilateral cooperation in preventing and combating illicit trafficking in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials.
