Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean supports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs decision to close the Russian Cultural Center in Chisinau, emphasizing that while Moldova has no opposition to Russian culture, the institution served as a cover for the Kremlin’s agents of influence.
“This should have happened long ago. I want to make it clear that Moldova is not against Russian culture. Russian culture is rich and appreciated. But this is not about culture. It is about the Kremlin and Russian agents of influence operating in Moldova. We decided to shut down this so-called ‘cultural’ project because it was never about culture. It was about influence and agents hiding behind the word ‘culture,'” Recean stated.
On Thursday, February 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced that the Russian Center for Science and Culture would cease operations in Moldova. The decision came after two drones exploded in southern Moldova following a massive Russian attack on Ukraine’s Reni port. Following the incident, Moldovan authorities urgently summoned Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov to the MFA for an explanation. However, Ozerov questioned whether the drones that crashed in Moldova were of Russian origin.
