On Tuesday, January 14, the Republic of Moldova may face an electricity shortage. Energocom forecasts that they could not fully reserve the interconnection capacity with Romania due to its limitations.
As a result, between 16:00 and 19:00, the Moldovan authorities plan to rely on emergency power to meet consumption needs. Specifically, they will make purchases on the stock exchange.
“In this context, we urge citizens to reduce their electricity consumption to ease pressure on the entire system. The Chisinau and Balti district heating plants, renewable energy sources, and additional imports secured through bilateral contracts and stock exchange purchases will supply the remaining electricity required on January 14,” Energocom representatives stated.

Starting January 1, 2025, Moldovan authorities will cease buying electricity from Cuciurgan. This decision follows Moscow’s unilateral violation of the Russian gas supply contract and its suspension of deliveries to the left bank of the Dniester. Moscow attributed the halt to Kyiv’s failure to extend the transit contract.
