The EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova and the EU Delegation team visited the Transnistrian region. They engaged with communities, schools, and businesses, reaffirming the European Union’s commitment to dialogue, stability, and peace.
In Ribnita, Jānis Mažeiks spoke with students, teachers, and principals from the Romanian-language “Evrika” High School and the Russian-language “A. K. Belitchenko” School №10.
He emphasized restoring the original “Evrika” Theoretical High School building to ensure a proper learning environment and address longstanding educational challenges. Education shapes a better European future that we can build together.
During the visit to one of the region’s largest enterprises, the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant (MMZ), the Ambassador noted that its operations remain suspended due to the energy crisis, worsened by Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in November 2024.

The Delegation team discussed with the plant’s management its ability to adapt and function in a liberalized energy market.
In Tiraspol, the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova met with Vadim Krasnoselski, the de facto leader. Discussions covered the energy and economic crisis, the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, and the human rights situation in the region.
The visit also highlighted the emergency assistance package of 20 million euros provided to the Left Bank at the beginning of February—a concrete demonstration of the EU’s support for the region’s residents. An additional 60 million euros is available, but its release depends on clear progress in respecting human rights, fundamental freedoms, and a fair energy pricing system.
The European Union stands ready to provide support, but without reforms, further assistance cannot move forward.
