Igor Grosu Affirms Lithuania as a Reliable Partner for Moldova During Vilnius Visit

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Lithuanian Seimas will soon approve the mandate for the country’s vote in the EU Council regarding the opening of accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, as reported by MOLDPRES, citing the Communication and Public Relations Department of the Legislature.

The President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, who was on a working visit to Vilnius, had several meetings today at the Lithuanian Seimas, where he discussed with Lithuanian parliamentarians.

The head of the Legislature met with the President of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, with whom he discussed the bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Lithuania. “We have appreciated the dialogue between our countries in various sectors. We discussed the parliamentary agenda and congratulated our Lithuanian colleagues on the opening of the parliamentary session, which took place today, and which I had the pleasure to attend,” said Igor Grosu.

Regarding the process of harmonizing national legislation with that of the European Union, the President of the Parliament spoke with the President of the European Affairs Committee, Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė. Igor Grosu stated that the Parliament of Chișinău is focused on implementing the 9 recommendations of the European Commission, formulated in the context of granting candidate country status for EU accession and commencing negotiations, and Lithuania’s experience is of great help.

The agenda of the visit to the Seimas also included discussions with other Lithuanian parliamentarians responsible for security and the economy. The head of the Legislature emphasized that the authorities in Chișinău support entrepreneurs and create conditions for economic growth, which is also a guarantee for the consolidation of democracy in our country. “I thanked our Lithuanian partners for the support they have provided in our accession process to the European Union. Once again, I am convinced that Lithuania is a reliable partner for Moldova,” said the President of the Parliament at the end of his working visit to the Republic of Lithuania.
