The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, spoke today, June 20, on the phone with the former German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, the discussion focusing on the European course of our country.
The discussion referred to the European course of our country, as well as to the opinion of the European Commission, through which the EU member states are recommended to grant the status of candidate for accession to the community at the European Council of 23 and 24 June.
The two officials also spoke about the reform process in our country, including in the areas mentioned in the Commission’s opinion, which are essential for advancing the Euro-integration process.

Maia Sandu expressed her gratitude for the support given to our country during the years of Germany, including during the term of office of Angela Merkel.
Recall that on June 17, the European Commission recommended to the European Council to support the application for the status of candidate state for accession to the European Union of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, while in the case of Georgia it came with the recommendation to carry out political reforms. subsequently the request will pass into the examination phase.
Maia Sandu, President of the country, welcomed the decision, saying that “at the European Council meeting on June 23-24, EU Member States will support the European Commission’s recommendation and grant our country candidate status.”
