MEPs Ina Cosheru and Radu Marian urged parliamentarians from European Union countries to continue supporting Moldova to accelerate accession negotiations. They delivered this message at the Meeting of the Presidents of the Conference of Community Affairs Committees of Parliaments of the EU (COSAC).
“We express our gratitude to all European countries for supporting Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union, in the fight against misinformation, in the context that in October this year, Moldova will hold a referendum on accession to the European Union,” Ina Cosheru, chairwoman of the Foreign Policy and European Integration Committee, emphasized.
Radu Marian, the Committee on Economy, Budget, and Finance, emphasized the urgent need for access to pre-accession funds to increase investment opportunities in Moldova’s development. “We urged the European Union countries to continue to support the Republic of Moldova to accelerate all negotiation chapters. These meetings, attended by decision-makers from all EU parliaments, provide a valuable opportunity to strengthen Moldova’s image abroad. This, in turn, helps us receive the political and financial support necessary to develop our country,” said Radu Marian.

The event brought together MEPs from all EU Member States, who discussed the program and priorities of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and the current state of the EU enlargement policy in the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe.
Also on the margins of the event, Moldovan MEPs held bilateral meetings with officials and counterparts from the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia, the Senate of the French Republic, the Croatian Parliament, the Senate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the Austrian Bundesrat. The officials discussed opportunities to enhance interparliamentary cooperation in key areas.
COSAC is a forum established in 1989 for cooperation, exchange of information, and best practices between the national parliaments of the EU Member States and the European Parliament. The objective is to facilitate discussions between members of national parliaments and MEPs on practical aspects of parliamentary scrutiny of European affairs.
