State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Stela Leuca, together with the head of the European Union Delegation in Chisinau, Janis Mazeix, held an information meeting for representatives of civil society and some state institutions, dedicated to the implementation of 9 recommendations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the State Chancellery, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the Office of the President of the Republic of Moldova, and the National Anti-Corruption Center.
EU Ambassador to Chisinau Janis Mazejks reiterated the main elements of the presentation of the European Commission of June 22, 2023, and also stressed the importance of continuing the efforts of the Moldovan authorities, including in areas that qualify as carried out by the European Commission (for example, consultations of the Venice Commission and the involvement of civil society in the decision-making process).
For her part, the State Secretary of the MFAEI, Stela Leuca, highlighted the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in the implementation of the nine recommendations of the European Commission, formulated in the context of the application for EU accession, and informed about the plans of the Moldovan authorities before the publication of the EU Enlargement Package for 2023, which should take place in October this year. Representatives of national public authorities spoke in more detail about the undertaken and planned actions to reform justice, prevent and combat corruption, and de-oligarize and strengthen the capacity of public administration.
Representatives of civil society supported the position of the EU Delegation in our country regarding the importance of continuing the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to implement the recommendations. At the same time, reference was made to the conclusions of the second alternative report on the implementation of the Action Plan, carried out by the Institute for European Politics and Reforms, the Independent Analytical Center “Expert Group” and the Center for Legal Resources of Moldova as part of the #ThinkTanks4EUMembership initiative and in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in the Republic of Moldova.
