MFAEI will have a new unit to oversee external assistance

At a government meeting on August 14, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu presented a draft decision on the creation of a new subdivision within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, which will supervise the provision of external assistance. This initiative will strengthen Moldova’s international presence.

“In this way, we join the recommendations of the European Union, seeking to develop policies and programs of international cooperation for progress and modernization. Now Moldova has no specific development legislation and does not officially offer assistance to other countries, although we are already active in solving some regional problems. Here we can mention our contribution to humanitarian aid to Ukraine and in dealing with the consequences of natural disasters, such as the earthquake in Turkey.

Although we will continue to receive more aid than we can give, we are determined to play an active role in dealing with various crises. This new unit will be responsible for establishing an official development assistance program. These efforts will enable us to provide external support and strengthen cooperation with domestic and international partners, thus contributing to our path towards the European Union and preparing for membership status in the EU,” said Minister Nicu Popescu.
