Moldova has completed its presidency mandate in GUAM. Nicu Popescu’s message

The Republic of Moldova handed over the chairmanship of the acting presidency within the GUAM Organization. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, participated yesterday, December 21, in the online closing meeting of the current presidency of the organization.

“I participated in videoconference format at the 40th meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the GUAM member states, an event that marked the end of our country’s current presidency of the organization. The presidency of the Republic of Moldova within GUAM coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Organization, which allowed our country to renew its commitments to the organization’s values and objectives: democracy, rule of law, respect for human rights, strengthening regional security and stability, the deepening of European integration to create a common space for security, economic stimulation and humanitarian cooperation”, said Popescu.

Moreover, the Foreign Minister stated that he supported and continues to support the values on which the organization was founded, especially in the context of the brutal invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

“Our country, including in the regional format, has strongly condemned the war and remains in solidarity with Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and democracy. We remain firm in supporting the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine and will continue to ensure the safety and well-being of over 80 thousand Ukrainian refugees living in Moldova, provide humanitarian assistance, ensure avenues of solidarity and do our best to be a contributor to regional stability. Within GUAM we had excellent contacts with all member states, with international and regional organizations. We made a series of advances in the sectoral activity, bringing together working groups on exceptional situations, transport, science and education, strategic communication and trade”, concluded Nicu Popescu.

The GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development is a regional organization of four post-Soviet states: Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova.
