Moldova has taken a significant step forward in safeguarding its intellectual property by ratifying the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on appellations of origin and geographical indications. The Geneva Act, which revises the original Lisbon Agreement signed on 31 October 1958, aims to improve the protection of appellations of origin and geographical indications globally, thereby benefiting producers in our country.
This ratification allows Moldova to exercise its rights by requesting other countries to protect its geographical indications and appellations of origin. Additionally, as a member of the Lisbon Union, which currently comprises 43 states, Moldova will play a vital role in examining applications for protection within its territory for geographical indications and appellations of origin from other member states.
By ratifying the Geneva Act, Moldova reaffirms its commitment to promoting and protecting its unique agricultural and artisanal products on the global stage. This move safeguards national interests and fosters a conducive environment for local producers to thrive and compete effectively in international markets.
