Moldovan authorities will hold parliamentary elections on September 28. In this context, police have warned both citizens and candidates about the risks and consequences of electoral corruption.
Law enforcement officials reminded the public that electoral corruption includes offering money or goods in exchange for votes, transporting voters in return for benefits, promising services on election day or in exchange for votes, pressuring individuals to vote a certain way, and asking voters to photograph their ballots.
Under new regulations, authorities increased the prison sentence for vote buying to between 2 and 6 years, up from the previous 1 to 5 years. The fine remains unchanged, ranging from 37,500 to 57,000 lei.
