Moldova will be able to purchase batches of vaccines and medicines together with EU countries

Moldova will soon be able to participate in joint public procurement procedures for purchasing medical supplies to address serious health threats. The Parliament’s Commission for Foreign Policy and European Integration has approved the ratification of an agreement enabling this collaboration.

The joint procurement agreement is an innovative tool for organizing the acquisition of vaccines and medicines in preparation for pandemics. Its goal is to ensure fair and cost-effective access to shared medical resources. Once Moldova ratifies the agreement, it will gain equitable access to vital health system products, especially during times of scarcity. Moreover, the joint procurement mechanism allows Moldova to acquire additional quantities of medicines and medical devices, including from reserves held by other signatory states.

According to the Health Ministry, this initiative will secure reasonable prices for medical supplies, reduce the risk of exploitation by unscrupulous economic operators, and help prevent low-quality or ineffective product purchases. The European Commission established the joint procurement agreement for medical contingencies in 2014. Since then, all 28 EU member states, along with the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, and North Macedonia, have signed the agreement.
