Parliament will ratify the agreement on Moldova’s accession to the International Convention for the Suppression of Counterfeiting Currency. Today, the Committee on National Security, Defense, and Public Order members reviewed the draft law and will propose its approval at the plenary session.
The agreement will enable cooperation between Moldova and other states to combat currency counterfeiting within the country and internationally. Under the convention, currency fraudulent manufacturing or altering, circulating counterfeit money, and importing, receiving, or obtaining counterfeit currency will be considered criminal offenses.
The draft law also establishes a central national office that will collaborate with specialists from coin-issuing institutions and law enforcement authorities to prevent and punish currency counterfeiting.
