Medical tourism in the Republic of Moldova has become increasingly attractive to patients worldwide. Experts highlight that by offering high-quality services at affordable prices, the country has gained the attention of those seeking dental treatments, surgical procedures, and rehabilitation services that meet European standards, IPN reports.
The most popular fields for foreign patients include dentistry, aesthetic and plastic surgery, in vitro fertilization, and ophthalmology.
Medical tourism specialists also note that many international patients seek wellness and health recovery treatments in local sanatoriums.
Maria Marinuta, director of a travel agency that also provides medical tourism services, explained to IPN that one of Moldova’s key advantages is the significantly lower cost of treatments compared to other European countries. For example, dental procedures and cosmetic surgeries can be up to 50-70% cheaper than in Western Europe without compromising the quality of medical services.

Additionally, Marinuta pointed out that Moldovan doctors are highly qualified, with many having studied and specialized abroad. Clinics are equipped with modern technology, and services are provided professionally, following international standards.
Another attraction for patients is to combine medical treatments with tourism, allowing them to explore the country’s historical and cultural sites.
Beyond the benefits for patients, medical tourism experts emphasize its positive impact on the national economy. Investments in medical infrastructure, the expansion of related services, and Moldova’s international promotion as a top medical destination benefit both the private sector and the overall economy. Authorities and businesses are working together to position Moldova as a regional hub for high-quality medical services.
Medical tourism managers explain that international patients can access medical services in Moldova by contacting clinics directly or using specialized medical tourism agencies, which handle travel arrangements, treatment scheduling, and accommodation.
“Authorities note that in April 2024, at the General Assembly of the Global Healthcare Travel Council, attended by representatives from over 50 countries, Moldova secured the most votes, surpassing Germany and Saudi Arabia in the race for the GHTC presidency. As a result, Moldova, represented by the Medical Tourism Association, took over the GHTC presidency for 2024-2026,” according to a press release.
Meanwhile, medical tourism representatives say that Moldova continues to develop its private healthcare sector, attracting more international patients annually. With affordable prices, high-quality services, and well-known hospitality, the country is becoming an increasingly popular destination on Europe’s medical tourism map.
