Greece is reinforcing its teams with 240 firefighters from Bulgaria, Malta, Moldova, and Romania. They will be in the country from early July to mid-September, which coincides with the wildfire season.
The first team from Bulgaria is already in the country, in the city of Thessaloniki, while the second team from Malta will arrive in the month middle in Greece’s south part.
Several fires have broken out since the beginning of summer, and the wind increases the risk of their spreading. Firefighters have deployed planes and helicopters to extinguish the fire, which originated less than 25 kilometers from Athens, and police have closed several roads.
